Following a government commissioned report it’s been suggested that a 12 month learner stage could come in to play at some point in the future for new drivers. This period would be at least 120 hours practice time with the focus on reducing accidents.

The practice would consist of 100 hours daytime driving and 20 hours of night time driving, all under supervision of course.

To quote the Department for Transport “Young drivers drive around 5% of all the miles driven in Britain, but are involved in about 20% of the crashes where someone is killed or seriously injured”

Based on the quote above then the idea might be a good thing for all road users, young and old.
