During August Today Team same day couriers had the honour of helping the people of Warrington show their support for their local rugby league team, the Warrington Wolves who had progressed to the Challenge Cup Final. A “best wishes” book had been in circulation around the town in the weeks leading up to the final which gave the fans a chance to give their own personal support to the players by writing good luck messages for the team to read before the final.
It had been nearly two decades since the Wolves had qualified for the Challenge Cup Final and the town was buzzing in anticipation leading up to the match which was played on Saturday 29th of August against Huddersfield Giants at Wembley.
The book had been signed by hundreds of loyal fans around the town and Wire FM the local radio station did a special show the night before the game to support the Wolves before their big day. Not wanting to take any chances with the transport of the book Wire FM wanted to use a professional same day courier company, this meant Today Team were assigned with the job of collecting the book during the radio show and taking it safely to the hotel were the Wolves were staying.
The book was collected from Wire FM DJ Pete Pinnington while he was on air and he was good enough to give Today Team a few mentions during the show. The driver had a the usual battle with the Friday night rush hour traffic but the book was delivered safely to the team hotel in London where assistant coach Jimmy Lowes signed for it.
The good luck wishes must have worked as the Wolves ran out winners 25-16 and brought home some much needed silverware to the club. Steven Pickersgill one the Wolves squad said “It was a great boost for the lads to read all the messages that were in the book, it was a good reminder of how passionate our fans are and how happy we could make them by winning the cup”
Well done Warrington Wolves!
